Kamalapuram

Gaṇigitti Temple

The Gaṇigitti Temple (1385 CE) is located in the village of Kamalapuram. In this temple, three elements project from the front hall (maṇḍapa). There is a porch to the front and an additional side entrance to the east. A closed image chamber protrudes from the west. The fact, however, that it was used as an image chamber in the past is clearly indicated by the praṇālī or praṇāla funnel, which emerges on the north side and once channelled the sacred liquid formed in ritual ablutions, called tīrtha, out of the shrine.
