2012, 28th June Library Opening Ceremony
At the end of June, the Pianarosa Jaina Library was formally opened in the Department of Asian and Islamic Art History in Bonn. Members of the Pianarosa family, invited dignitaries from India, a number of European countries and Germany participated in the inauguration ceremony of this specialist library. This was accompanied by an evening programme of lectures and refreshments.
2012, April - June International Lecture Series Text, Image and Circulation: Jaina Art and the Pianarosa Library in Bonn
In 2011, the Department of Asian and Islamic Art History, The University of Bonn, received a substantial donation of 1,600 specialised books on Jaina art and culture from the Pianarosa family in Turin, Italy. The lecture series entitled „Text, Image and Circulation: Jaina Art in India and the Pianarosa Library in Bonn“ celebrates this generous donation, brings renowned scholars to Bonn and draws attention to this new research centres on Jaina culture.
2011, October International Conference In the Shadow of the Golden Age: Art and Identity in Asia from Gandhara to the Modern Age
This second international conference brings together specialist in Asian visual studies from Europe, North America and India. Over three days, scholars will debate the validity and use of the term ‘golden age’ in art historical studies. Instead of focussing on ‘high points’ and ‘masterpieces’ many contributions will examine art in the ‘shadow of the golden age’, for instance, in situations of confrontation with the ‘other’.
2008, July International Conference Panel 20th European Conference on Modern South Asian Studies (ECMSAS)
The European Conference on Modern South Asian Studies (ECMSAS) is held every two years. The 20th ECMSAS 2008 was hosted and organised by the School of Arts, Histories and Cultures, University of Manchester.
Prof. Dr. Julia A.B. Hegewald is a Member of the Academic Committee and the Organising Committee of the conference and co-chairs a panel resulting from the work of the project.

2007, February International Conference Jainism in Karnataka: Literature, History, Religion, Art and Architecture
The Emmy-Noether Research Group on Jainism in Karnataka will hold their first international symposium at the National Institue of Advances Studies (NIAS) in Bangalore, India in cooperation with Prof. Dr. S. Settar.
2007, February Exhibition Mudabidri Temples
The second exhibition of the Emmy-Noether Research Group has been organised in cooperation with Prof. Miki Desai and Mr. Pratyush Shankar from the Faculty of Architecture, Centre for Environmental Planning and Technology (CEPT) at the University of Ahmedabad, India. More than thirty architectural drawings of Jaina temples in the costal town of Mudabidri in Karnataka will be exhibited at the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bangalore.
2006, June Photographic Exhibition Mahamastakabhisheka 2006
The Emmy Noether Research Group on Jainism in Karnataka conducted joint fieldwork in Shravanabelgola for the rare Mahamastakabisheka (head-anointing) ceremony of the colossal Bahubali statue which takes place about every twelve years. Photographs and explanatory texts from the ceremony will be displayed in the South Asia Institute (SAI) of the University of Heidelberg in June.
2005, October Workshop Jainism in Karnataka
On Thursday, 18th October 2005, the members of the Emmy Noether Research Group will present their individual research areas in an extended session of the Cultural Studies Research Colloquium (Kulturwissenschaftliches Forschungs-kolloquium) of the South Asia Institute, starting at 4pm.
